Fish Bone Surgeries
Fish Bone Surgeries started as a piece of creative nonfiction in response to the notion of ‘home as solace, home as exile’ and examines the idea of lived experiences as archive.
Taking this into the physical, Sammy hacked a SX-70 camera to produce polaroids that appear obscure and dreamlike in order to illustrate the nebulous sensation of home. Washes of ocean blue hide the image of her mother’s hands picking out the skeleton of a Taiwanese tilapia. This moment of time past is then scanned and printed on the same cotton voile fabric that was used as tablecloths in her childhood kitchen.
